A five-step skill: turning a free trial into a booked strategy call

The operating procedure, written out in full, for the moment between someone starting a trial and someone booking time with you.

A trial that nobody ever follows up on is just a longer way of losing the lead. This is the operating procedure we use for the gap between "someone started a trial" and "someone booked fifteen minutes with a real person", written out in full so you can run it yourself, whatever tools you use to send email and text messages.

The five steps

1. Confirm the moment it happens. The instant a trial starts, send one short confirmation. Not a sales pitch, just confirmation that it worked and what to expect next. This is the message people actually read, because they just took the action.

2. Give the booking link its own message, later. Do not bury the booking link inside the confirmation. Send it as its own message, a short while afterwards, with one reason to click it that is specific to what they just signed up for.

3. Keep every reminder tied to a real deadline. If the trial or the offer has an end date, say the actual date, not "soon." A reminder with no deadline reads as background noise and gets ignored.

4. Use a second channel for the moment that matters most. Email is easy to miss. For the single most important reminder, a short text message alongside the email meaningfully increases the odds it gets seen in time.

5. Stop the sequence the moment the action happens. As soon as someone books, every further reminder for that action stops. Nothing kills trust faster than being reminded to do something you already did.

Why this works as a system, not a one-off

None of these five steps depends on a specific piece of software. What matters is the order (confirm, then invite, then remind against a real deadline, then escalate the channel, then stop cleanly) and that the stopping condition is checked before every send, not after. Build it in whatever tools you already use for email and SMS, and it holds.

We are building this exact sequence into the product as FollowUp Engine, which is coming soon, currently in build with early access opening on the Pro plan, so you will eventually be able to run these five steps without wiring the tools together yourself.
